How to we start to practise self care ?

Self care is something talked about often on social media and ideas of wellness are very much a hot topic.

However self care for many of us isn't an easy process and can feel overwhelming or have a sense of not 'doing it right' or 'doing enough'. The important thing to remember is to go slowly and build a new routine little by little this is especially important if you are Neurodivergent or find change and remembering to do tasks difficult.

Often learning to say NO to things can be a huge part of self care so thinking of our own needs and putting ourselves first.

Interoceptive Awareness is also something we can learn to start noticing how our body is feeling and what our body signals mean. An exercise to build this may be noticing how our bodies are feeling when we are doing daily activities for example: 'my stomach feels growly' which will signal that we are hungry or 'my heart beats fast before I have to go on a train' this can help us to find clues to what we are feeling and look after ourselves in terms of both body and mind.

Once we are able to understand our body signals and clues to our emotions we can start to look at what makes as feel comfortable and enhances our sense of wellbeing.
